Purpose: The Music Scholarship is designed primarily to encourage and provide assistance for those who are interested in learning to play instruments in order to provide musical accompaniment at Mt. Level Missionary Baptist Church. It may also be used to provide assistance to those who are involved in the music ministry at Mt. Level and whose contributions would be enhanced by further vocal instruction.Opportunities may exist to provide accompaniment or vocal ministry during (1) Sunday School assembly; (2) individual Sunday School classes, (3) choir rehearsals, (4) Sunday morning worship, (5) Sunday afternoon services, (6) mid-week services, (7) praise and worship, (8) recitals, or (9) musicals/plays. Both beginning (no lessons) and advanced (2 or more years of lessons) students may apply for the scholarship. If a prospective student is 5-6 years of age, level of readiness must be determined by a qualified Instructor prior to application for a scholarship.Family membership at Mt. Level Missionary Baptist Church is a prerequisite for children who apply. Membership at Mt. Level Missionary Baptist Church is a prerequisite for adult applicants. Preference is given to applicants who attend Sunday School. If an applicant has been funded for two consecutive years, consideration may be given for continued support based on Instructor’s report and student’s service to Mt. Level.Scholarship Fund, Type and Number of Awards: Funds have been set aside in a budget line for Music Scholarships. A maximum award of $250 may be given to qualified students.Piano/organ scholarships, instrumental scholarships, and vocal scholarships will be available for award each year. Only 1 beginning piano scholarship will be awarded each year unless there are fewer than 2 advanced students who are eligible. Only one family member per year will be awarded a scholarship unless there are fewer other applicants than the number of scholarships. Only those applicants who have satisfactorily completed the application process will be considered.Method of Payment: Stipend is to be paid by the Treasurer to a qualified Instructor on a schedule determined by the Instructor and the Director of Music. If the timing of the award is such that the entire $250 is not paid before the end of the fiscal year, and the student/parent has paid for lessons during the fiscal year prior to the award, reimbursement (such that the total award is $250) may be possible.
