Albert E. Love Donation Fund Committee

 

 

Purpose:  The purpose and responsibility of this committee is to review applications, screen applicants, and provide financial assistance to college students who are seeking an undergraduate or associate degree using the Albert E.  Love Scholarship Fund.  This committee is a sub-committee of the Finance Committee.

Bible Training Union

 

Purpose: The Training Union shall work with the pastor and church officers to adopt programs of instruction and spiritual development to meet the specific needs of this church.  The Director shall see that a full and accurate report is given at the regular business meetings of the church.

 Budget Committee

 

 

Purpose:  The purpose and responsibility of the Budget Committee is to prepare and submit annual budgets for the church calendar.  The committee will confer with the Pastor and the Deacons, who determine rates for salaried employees.  Members must include the church treasurer and the financial secretary.  Duties include but are not limited to implementing a new budget if one is not in existence, reviewing the existing budget, submitting an updated budget yearly for review and approval by the church body, and responding to church members concerning budgetary information.

Calendar Committee

 

Purpose:  The purpose and responsibility of this committee is to prepare an annual written calendar of all the dates and activities of the Mt Level Church.  Membership should include a deacon, trustee, representatives from the Music Committee and from the Program Committee.  If there are open dates on the church calendar, requests should be made to the Calendar Committee Chairperson.  It is expected that this committee will recommend amendments to the calendar to the church conference or to the pastor and Deacons.   All engagements by the Pastor, State Baptist Convention dates, as well as any information pertinent to the functions and growth of the church and community, are compiled, recorded and coordinated with the church secretary.  Staff members are responsible for submitting annual and on-going events with dates in a timely manner.  Annual dates and information should be submitted by mid December for the coming calendar year.

Community Action Committee

 

Purpose:  The purpose and responsibility of this committee is to keep the church abreast of important issues that arise within the immediate and larger community.  It represents the church in settings where decisions are made regarding the community's welfare, enlighten the church in appropriate matters, and advocate in a manner consistent with the church's beliefs.  The committee should work closely with the General Baptist State Convention, the N.C. Council of Churches, Durham Congregations in Action, and other groups such as the NAACP, the Durham Committee On the Affairs of Black People, Habitat for Humanity, etc.

Decorating and Furnishing Committee

 

Purpose:  The purpose and responsibility of this committee is to insure that flowers are available and coordinated for the sanctuary and other areas of the church.  Other duties include decorating for special Programs and seasonal events, maintaining plants and planters, and overseeing the floral contractors as needed.  Recommendations for new or replacement of furnishings or accessories are referred to the official boards.

Education Committee

  

Purpose:  This committee's responsibilities include planning and celebration of the Education Day yearly ceremony.  It's aim includes taking responsibility for an ongoing program of tutoring and enrichment and developing needed resources. Additionally, this committee will provide the church with resources and literature that address specific problems currently faced and with materials that bring our heritage as African Americans into focus.  This information will be retained as an initial step toward the establishment of the church library.  The Education Committee will be a presence in the church throughout the year, working closely with the Bible Church School and the Youth Director in particular, and other units as the occasion serves.  The chairperson is a member of the Albert E. Love Student Donation Fund.

Purpose:  The purpose and responsibilities of this committee are to act as financial consultant for the church body and make recommendations regarding investment funds and budgetary items, and give information and advice concerning disbursement of funds.  Other duties include but are not limited to counting and recording all monies collected during worship services and at other large gatherings when an offering is collected, and providing information and assistance to the Budget and Purchasing Committees as needed.

Funeral Committee

                                                                 

 

Purpose:  The purpose and responsibility of this committee is to assist bereaved families in areas of need during times of death in a family. Duties include assisting in the preparation of funeral arrangements providing food, clothing, transportation, etc. through church resources when requested, participating in the eulogistic services of loved ones when requested, and providing spiritual and emotional support where needed.

Graveyard Committee

  

Purpose:  The purpose and responsibility of this committee is the maintenance and upkeep of the church graveyard, maintenance of church records regarding the burial history of the church 's graveyard including the listing of names, burial dates and sites, availability of grave sites, etc. church policies and procedures concerning eligibility of burial of loved ones and other related information.

Hospitality Committee

 

 

Purpose:  The purpose and responsibility of this committee is to provide service and assistance to the church family during fellowship dinners.  Service includes planning of menus, preparation and set up of food and eating areas, and the coordination of the clean up staff after completion of meals or refreshments.  Other duties include the purchase of kitchen supplies and utensils for use during gatherings.

Missionary Department

 

 

Purpose:  The purpose and responsibility of the Missionary Department is to address the spiritual and material needs of the church and the community.  This Department includes the men, women, and children of the Mt. Level Church Family.  Other duties include home visitation to the sick members of the church, visitation to residents in the local nursing homes, oversee of the church's food pantry and clothing closet.

Evangelism Ministry

 

Purpose: The Evangelism Ministry in cooperation with the pastor and officers, shall be responsible for leading the church in extending its outreach beyond the walls and membership.  It's work, which shall be preceded by training and prayer, will include visiting in the neighborhoods around the church, witnessing for Christ, giving invitations to attend worship, and distributing appropriate materials from the church.

Purpose:  The purpose and responsibility of the Music Committee is to place first priority on "Music as Ministry", with special attention to the relationship of music and the larger Worship (liturgical) life of the church.  This committee, along with the Music Director, will be responsible for training the entire church, inclusive of, but not limited to the church choirs.  This committee will plan a schedule of events in cooperation with the Program Committee.  Such events will involve learning of praise songs, anthems, spirituals, and seasonal music.  Applicants requesting financial assistance toward receiving music lessons will be screened by this committee.

Purpose:  The purpose and responsibility of the New Members Committee is to facilitate the maximum retention and development of members when they unite with the Mount Level Church family.  This committee will establish a program that will follow each new member for a period of three months, which includes orientation and transition.  This committee will also guide new members into a Church School Bible Class and encourage them to become active in some organization of the church

Newsletter

 

Purpose:  The purpose of the newsletter is to inform and notify the church family of church activities and events and to provide vital information concerning community and area events.  Duties include researching information, writing correspondence, preparing art and graphic displays, typing, photo copying, and formatting of the newsletter.  The newsletter will be published monthly and distributed to the church family.

Purpose:   The purpose and responsibility of the Nursing Committee is to provide medical assistance to worshippers who become ill or incapacitated during worship services or scheduled gatherings at the church.  Other duties include coordinating workshops on health issues to educate the church body and community and maintaining first aid supplies and equipment in the nurses' station.

Purpose:  The purpose and responsibility of the Senior Citizens Committee is to focus on the needs and concerns of the senior citizens of the church and community, offering aid and assistance where requested or needed.  Duties include planning recreational activities of interest to senior citizens, providing transportation to and from places when needed, and addressing other needs or concerns as they arise.

Sick and Distressed Committee

 

Purpose:   The purpose and responsibility of this committee is to become an extended family in offering assistance to persons and families of persons who are ill or who have special needs.  The members of this committee interact with the family by addressing specific areas of need.  Duties include providing food to the sick, shopping, visiting the hospital or  home, taking care of specific errands, providing financial assistance, as well as offering spiritual support where needed.

Sound System Committee

 

 

Purpose:  The purpose and responsibility of the Sound System Committee is to oversee the operation, maintenance, and security of the sound system as well as recording and duplicating tapes for the tape ministry.  The chairperson must insure that all members are trained to operate the system and maintain a schedule for Sunday services and other scheduled services.

Tape Ministry

 

 

Purpose:  The purpose and responsibility of the Tape Ministry is to distribute tapes to the members of the Mt. Level Church family and to the community.  Special attention should be given to the sick.  This committee will confer with the pastor and Deacon Board regarding the scope of the work and fees for the tapes.

Transportation Committee

 

 Purpose:  The purpose and responsibility of the Transportation Committee is to establish and maintain a Bus Ministry for the church.  Other duties include, but are not limited to the maintenance and up keep of all vehicles owned by the Church, providing transportation for scheduled worship services, as well as for other scheduled services and meetings approved by the Transportation Committee.

Trustee Board 

 

 

Purpose:  The purpose and responsibility of the Trustee Board is to serve as stewards who hold in trust for the Mt. Level Church membership, the material possessions that have been accrued by the church. The Trustees are responsible for titles to all real estate, maintenance or improvement of existing church property, including disbursement of funds for minor maintenance, make suggestions and recommendations concerning major repairs and upkeep of church buildings, as well as interact with other committees within the church to assure the safe keeping of the church's assets and properties.

Usher Board

 

Purpose: The purpose and responsibility of the Usher Board is to greet and seat the congregation at regular services and at other times when large gatherings are held in the church.  An additional function of the usher is to receive the offering during regular and scheduled worship services.  Other duties include welcoming members and visitors as they enter to worship, serving as liaison between the Pastor and the congregation, and attending to the general needs of the worshippers.

Website Committee

 

Purpose: To create and maintain an easy to navigate web site that promotes the views, philosophies and teachings of the Church.  To maintain an effective and current means of delivering regularly scheduled activities, and special events given by and/or sponsored by the church. The committee will promote and provide to various departments and auxiliaries of the church an effective means of communicating non-confidential reports, announcements, schedules and newsletters to the church family and community.

Wedding Committee

  

Purpose: The purpose and responsibility of the Wedding Committee is to schedule the wedding ceremony, insure that members and non-members adhere to the wedding policy, provide assistance for the wedding ceremony when requested, and make recommendations for updating the wedding policy to the Deacons when necessary.  Members should include but are not limited to the Chairpersons of the Calendar Committee, a Deacon and a Trustee, the church Custodian, the Music Director, and at least two persons who have experience in conducting wedding ceremonies.
